Halifax 2011 Canada Games Website Launches

Fri February 27, 2009

Marking two years until the Games begin, the website for the 2011 Canada Winter Games was launched. ISL successfully bid on contracts for both design and building of the site. Halifax will host the 2011 Canada Games from February 11 - 27.

“We’ve had a great experience partnering with ISL on the design and build of our website. It’s fresh and professional, and will be the basis for information and innovation over the next two years,” said Chris Morrissey, CEO, Halifax 2011 Canada Games.

The Games’ website supports objectives for their diverse stakeholder groups:

  • Focus on being “athlete-centric” with athlete and sport features, profiles, photos, blogs
  • Engage the public in the spirit and community of the Games with frequently updated stories and  social media tools
  • Attract volunteers and facilitate their organization and participation
  • Recognize contributions of sponsors and government

Flexible Website Content Management a Must With 4 distinct phases in the lifecycle of the games, the website demanded a flexible, easily managed architecture. ISL’s OneWeb Content Management System is ideally suited to accommodate the broad changes in objectives and content, and allows Canada Games to make most of the updates themselves. The phases are:

  • 2 years - 6 months pre-games: push for volunteers and allow the public to follow developments and impact on their community
  • 6 months pre-games - games: tickets, schedules, venues
  • During games: real-time results, athlete profiles
  • Post games: results and legacy of the Games

The website is built on OneWeb CMS 5.1
