Malcolm Fraser was recently nominated for Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) in the 2011 Ernst and Young awards for the Atlantic region. The Canadian program is in its 18th year of honouring Canada’s most inspiring entrepreneurs. The winners from the Atlantic region will be announced at this year’s banquet on October 13.
The regional awards are the first of round in the process; the overall winner will go on to represent their region at the national EOY awards in Toronto on November, 23. The winner from the national event will represent Canada in the worlds hosted in Monte Carlo in June 2012.
“Businesses – and countries don’t grow by standing still,” explains Joyce Hoeven, Partner and Atlantic Director of Entrepreneur of the Year. Entrepreneurial thinking empowers companies in Atlantic Canada to generate new jobs locally. However, we are often the training ground for many talented people who start their careers here and then leave for larger centres. That’s why stakeholders – from governments to businesses to academia – must now work together to create a truly Atlantic entrepreneurial ecosystem where great opportunities will be developed. This is how we’ll retain talent here and compete on the national stage.”
Malcolm was nominated in the information technology category amongst some of Atlantic Canada’s largest companies and most successful CEO’s and business leaders such as;
Marcel LeBrun, Chris Newton and Chris Ramsey
Radian6 Inc. – Fredericton, New Brunswick
Julia Rivard
Sheepdog inc.ca – Halifax, Nova Scotia
Brendan Brothers, Jamie King, Raymond Pretty
Verafin – Saint John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador
The Ernst & Young Award is the most prestigious award for entrepreneurs around the globe. “It’s an honour to receive recognition from Ernst and Young. To be nominated amoungst Atlantic Canada’s fastest rising companies is a reward in its self,” states Fraser. “Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the key to the economic growth of our region. Awards like this are a great way of raising the awareness of the remarkable companies we have in this region but ultimately its stakeholders in the local economy who must work together to support small businesses, retain our work force and provide better incentives to help spur economic growth. “
