The Apple iPhone sold over 1 million units worldwide in the 3 days following its launch. And according to the W3C, 50% of the world's population is expected to have Internet access through a mobile device in 3 just years. While the ability to browse the web on mobile devices is spreading rapidly, the availability of mobile-friendly websites lags miserably.
“The fact is, most sites fail horribly when viewed on the 2-inch screen of a mobile device,” states Naveed Ashfaq, Managing Partner of ISL. “Adoption has reached a critical mass that is big enough and diverse enough to justify investment in mobile content. Companies need to consider a mobile website in their overall business strategies.”
Optimizing for mobile viewing is not as simple as shrinking the resolution. Designing and coding for mobile devices has its own set of standards, and iPhone has further guidelines for the touchpad. The interaction and therefore the functions are unique, and mobile users have different motivations and needs that affect content choices and priorities.
ISL has been building mobile applications for almost 10 years, ranging from ecommerce to database enabled applications.
